How does MyStockWatcher work?
← Back to dashboard Looking for what an indicator means? → Glossary
This page explains how to use MyStockWatcher — what each button does, how to manage transactions and alerts, and how reports and advice are put together. Looking for what an indicator like RSI or P/E means? Check the Glossary.
🚀 Getting Started
Adding a ticker
start
Click "+ Add ticker" above your ticker list and search by name or symbol (e.g. Apple, KBC.BR, ASML, BTC-USD). Your ticker appears immediately in the right category: Stocks, ETF, Crypto, Commodities or Currencies.
Reordering tickers
start
Drag a ticker by its ☰ handle on the left to reorder it within a category. Handy for putting your most important positions at the top.
Watchlist vs. position
start
Adding a ticker doesn't mean you own it yet — that's how you build a watchlist. Only add a transaction (see below) once you actually buy; only then does it count toward your portfolio value and returns.
🎛 The icons on each ticker
🔔 Price alert
icon
Set up a notification for when the price goes above or below a level you choose. The bell icon lights up once there's an active alert for that ticker.
📐 Support/resistance warning
icon
Turn on to be automatically warned about a short-term breakout of a support or resistance level. Green = enabled.
✎ Transactions
icon
Opens the position management window: log buy/sell/dividend transactions, view and edit the transaction list.
💡 Technical position analysis
icon
Opens a purely factual AI analysis for this ticker (trend, RSI, support/resistance -- no buy/sell advice), with the option to ask follow-up questions about your position.
📜 History
icon
Shows a combined timeline of past advice and transactions, by date — so you can see what's happened with this position at a glance.
× Hide
icon
Removes the ticker from your active list without deleting anything — transactions are kept. Find it again and restore it via "Hidden tickers" above the list.
On a narrow screen (phone) these six icons are replaced by a single ⋯ "More actions" button that shows the same actions as a readable list.
💰 Transactions & Position
Logging a buy / sell
transactions
Fill in the date, price per share and quantity, optionally with a broker. MyStockWatcher automatically calculates your average cost price and the number of shares you hold.
Logging a dividend
transactions
Enter the gross amount and the tax withheld; the net dividend counts toward your total return on the dashboard.
Dividend calendar
transactions
Shows the next ex-dividend or payment date for all your tickers, including the estimated yield for tickers you hold in your portfolio.
Profit/loss
transactions
Unrealized P&L (on open positions) is calculated against your average cost price; realized P&L comes from your sell transactions. Both the realized and unrealized result are reflected on the dashboard.
💬 AI Analysis & Portfolio Chat
Technical position analysis
advice
Per ticker (via 💡) the AI shows a purely factual technical analysis: trend, RSI, and the price relative to support/resistance. If you've logged a position, it also shows how the current price compares to your average cost price -- as a fact, not as advice. Also useful for watchlist tickers you don't own yet. No buy, hold or sell advice.
Asking follow-up questions
advice
Below the analysis you can type a specific question (e.g. "what does the current RSI say about this position?"). The AI answers purely factually, in the context of that same position -- if you literally ask "should I buy/sell?", the AI explains it doesn't give buy/sell advice and describes the relevant facts instead.
"Ask about your portfolio"
advice
At the top of the dashboard: a chat about your whole portfolio (diversification, total return, concentration risk) — unlike the per-ticker advice, which is about a single position.
🔔 Price Alerts
Setting an alert
alerts
Via 🔔 on a ticker, or "+ Set alert" in the Price alerts section: choose above/below a target price, optionally with a comment on why you're setting this alert.
All active alerts
alerts
The Price alerts section at the bottom of the dashboard shows all your active alerts across all your tickers, with the current price for comparison.
📄 Reports
Generating manually
reports
Click "Generate report" for an analysis of all your tickers right now. Check "Also by email" to get it in your inbox right away too.
Automatic reports
reports
In the "Automatic reports" box you can set up a daily report at a fixed time, and/or a weekly deep-dive (Monday) where the AI highlights your most notable ticker with an in-depth analysis.
Recent reports
reports
Click a date to revisit an earlier report, or go to "All reports" for the full overview.
